To better serve our residents and the community, Plaza Health Network has added state-of-the-art equipment to each Rehabilitation Program at our Homes. Our licensed, certified and highly experienced therapists, together with our equipment, make our Programs second to none.
We are pleased to introduce you to our new Hebrew Homes Plaza Health Network Rehabilitation Therapy Programs, providing our residents with a unique Falls Assessment and Treatment Program and a Strength Training Program. The Falls Assessment and Treatment Program and a Strength Training Program consists of three components:
Balance System:
Normal balance is controlled by a complex combination of visual, muscular and neurologic systems. Together these factors keep us from falling when we encounter an unexpected disturbance. Who benefits from this machine? Patients who have had a stroke, hip fracture, knee replacement, vertigo, pneumonia, medication changes, degenerative joint disease, increased risks for falls due to age, osteoporosis, traumatic brain injury.
This equipment will screen the patient to determine if they are "at risk" of falling and
design a personalized exercise plan that will enable the resident to improve daily.
We modify the factors that lead to falls in order to increase mobility and confidence, thereby enabling residents to be more independent.
Our Program consists of: Evaluation, Recommended Exercises, Interventions and Re-Evaluation.
Gait Trainer/Treadmill
Who benefits from this machine? Residents who have had a stroke, knee replacements, hip fractures, decline in ambulation, unsteady gait, shuffling gait or abnormal gait patterns, non-ambulatory for a certain amount of time, individuals with arthritis. The visual biofeedback that the patient receives virtually re-educates the brain to walk properly again.
Unweighing System:
Who benefits from this machine? Residents who have had: stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's Disease, bed bound/unable to maintain upright position, older adults, amputation of lower extremity, orthopedic patients, contractures.
By removing any fear of falling, the patient can proceed to learn to walk again. The equipment can reduce body weight by up to 60% and holds up to 400 lbs, to reduce any strain caused by injury and permit the patient to begin to participate in therapy more rapidly.
Our Strength Training Program has added two highly important machines:
NuStep
Who benefits from this machine? Residents who have had: low endurance, stroke, orthopedic patients, decreased strength and coordination, paralysis. This bike works on the aerobic part of exercise, coordination, and strength training. The NuStep also provides specialized attachments for those individuals who are unable to grasp the handle bars or maintain foot placement. These attachments allow passive range of motion for the injured upper and lower extremeties. The rowing hand movement will cause the legs to pedal and vice versa, thereby adding muscle movement, nerve stimulation and blood circulation to help prevent muscle atrophy and assist in getting the patient back to a higher level of independence as soon as possible.
Bowflex Versatrainer
This equipment helps develop upper torso strength for residents who are weak and who may have osteoporosis. It also helps build bone mass. The Versatrainer is an excellent tool for core strengthening, which will assist in the functional development of transfers, bed mobility, balance and posture. It is geared toward the geriatric population by offering small, manageable weight increments for them to exercise with. It also gives the therapist several different positions to choose from so that the patient can utilize different muscle groups without having to change positions. A key feature for those who may currently be immobile is that the Versatrainer is wheelchair accessible.
